Why does it take a long time get a site ranked in the search results?

All search engines routinely search the web for new web sites on a daily basis. There are millions of new pages added to the internet on a daily basis and the search engines have to find them all and index them for keywords. The main search engines will normally index a web site every 2-3 weeks. Therefore, when the search engines finally get to your web site, they will index your pages for the keywords you put in your web site and go through all of the pages of your web site and then leave for another 2 weeks. By getting links from other web sites back to your web site, the search engines will come to your web site more often and index your site quicker. However, the process of getting links out there, having those links found, and the long delays in search engines getting to your web site results in a long period of time for achieving higher placement in the engines. The only way to speed up the process is to get more and more links from other web sites.
