How long does it take for a web site to get on the first page of the search results?

This is one of the most frequently asked questions we get. There are many, many factors in placing a web site on the first page results of search engines. Google, in fact, looks at 77 different factors when determining where a web site should be ranked. The time it takes for your web site to get ranked depends on some of the following:
  1. How long has your web site been live on the internet? The longer the site has been up, the quicker it can get ranked
  2. How competitive are the keywords that you are marketing? The more competitive and more searched keywords result in longer times to get on the first page of the results. You should look at lower search volumes since you may have an easier time getting your web site ranked for those words
  3. How many web sites have links going back to your web site? If more web sites have links to your web site, you will have an easier time moving up in the search results
  4. How many pages of unique content do you have on your web site? It is important to have unique articles written on your web site about the keywords you are targeting. The more content you have, the quicker your web site will get ranked.

Overall, search engine placement is a time consuming process. If you are trying to get placement for non competitive keywords, you could see results in a matter of weeks. For competitive keywords, you could be looking at 4-6 months to see the results. For less competitive web site keywords, a good time period for a brand new web site is about 2 months and if the site has been up for a long time, you could see results in a matter of weeks.
